Project Acronym: TRACKPLAST
Project Title: Development of an Innovative Tracking System for Plastic Waste Packaging of Consumer Products to Combat Marine Pollution
Marine pollution is a global problem which every day becomes more and more intense as every year millions of tons of waste end up in the world's oceans creating a series of environmental, economic, health and aesthetic problems, with the latter particularly damaging the tourism industry which is perhaps the main driver of our country's development.
Through the use of specialized object tracking technology through identifiers and with the support of a specialized online platform that will be responsible for data collection & visualization, the research project will focus its efforts on investigating the possibility of determining the terrestrial sources of marine pollution with plastic and in mapping the routes of the waste as well as its entry into the sea, with the ultimate aim of finding solutions and investigating preventive measures to prevent/divert plastics from entering it and to reduce marine pollution in general .
The project is co-financed by Greece and the European Union as part of the
